Bali – From Padangbai to Candi Dasa
B Cabe Bali, Temege, Tirtagangga, Tel/fax 22045. Recently opened and run by a very friendly lady from Munich, Barbara Soetarto, this is one of the nicest places to stay in Karangasem. Set in glorious gardens with sea views and refreshing breezes. At present there are only three Bungalows; beautifully decorated, with Slumberland beds and luxury bathrooms. Gunung Agung views and the coast with Nusa Penida in the distance. A swimming pool is due to be built. The excellent cafe/restaurant 2-3* is set in an open-air pavilion surrounded by ponds. Getting there by car/bemo: coming from Amlapura, 5 kms from town turn left at the sign where the road bends sharply right, in Temege village, on the main road to Tirtagangga; follow a very rough track for 1 km. Airport pickup available, free if you stay a week. Highly recommended.

Cabe Bali ((0363/22045) The most luxurious accommodation in the area, offering superb, tasteful Bungalows, all with hot water, in lovely gardens surrounded by ricefields with excellent views of Gunung Agung and Gunung Lempuyang. There's a relaxed atmosphere, excellent, friendly service and a swimmingpool. Accessed from Temega, about 1.5 km south of Tirtagangga look out for the sign opposite the market; it's 500m along a rough road into the paddy fields.

Bali off the Beaten Track

It is impossible to imagine the rustic charm and tranquility which surrounds the four private guest houses at Cabe Bali, owned and run by Prihanto Soetarto and his charming wife Barbara.
The bungalows, each with an individual terrace for relaxing in the early morning or late afternoon, surround a delightful, free form pool in a garden setting with the whole forming an oasis in the centre of a seemingly endless panorama of rice fields and traditional farming.
Barbara is a delightful hostess who treats her restaurant like her personal dining room and is often to be found there spreading conviviality and information among her longer staying guests.
The area is a treasure trove of unexpected sights and sounds with rice field and villages walks, mountain trekking, beach visits and tours to major local tourist destinations such as the nearby royal water garden at Tirta Gangga or Bali's Mother Temple at Besakih.
The ultimate recmmendation for Cabe Bali is that once there many of the guests forget all about time and responsibility and never want to leave.
